Everyone wants to know how to get rid of a migraine fast and have instant migraine relief.

Our lives are so busy, that we think we can’t afford to let any signal from our body get in the way of that relentless drive to stay on task (even if that signal is an oncoming migraine). We feel we MUST find an instant solution because our lives are so dysregulated that we cannot even afford to rest when we are sick with migraine – even though migraine is a very serious illness. 

The seriousness of migraine and its severity is a testament to the fact that when the body is sending a pain signal as intense as migraine, it is an URGENT plea by the body for you to slow down.

Will you listen to this plea? Or will you look for instant relief?

There is something misguided about trying to get an instant fix to solve something that’s caused by the fact our lives are so busy everything must be done instantly.

​If stress caused by lack of time is the root cause of migraine, demanding that the body stop its cries for you to slow down can’t be its solution.

Since progesterone and cortisol are both made from the same substrate (the grandmother hormone pregnenolone), the faster-paced our life is, the more stressed we are, the less pregnenolone we have to make progesterone, and the more migraines we have. This also ties into serotonin. Progesterone helps the body to sensitize itself to serotonin. Having sufficient progesterone and serotonin is key to preventing migraine. But stress, speed, and lack of rest steal our progesterone and serotonin.

This is another way of saying that the fastest route to instant migraine relief is to stop pursuing instant migraine relief.

What if the relief you need is to start to develop the boundaries to say NO to so many commitments? To pace yourself, honor yourself, and rest? To take your time? And even if you already know and believe that how do you actually DO that?

Well first, you’d have to believe you were valuable enough to deserve to do that. Self-esteem definitely comes into play. You must have self-esteem to have personal agency.

Maybe that’s not what you wanted to hear me say, but this website is dedicated to HOLISTIC MIGRAINE RELIEF, not quick fixes. In order to address migraine holistically (ie, actually HEAL it, for good), it is necessary to come to terms with the fact that expecting your body to respond to an external medication or treatment on demand, without doing anything to support or address root causes, does nothing but make your condition worse.

Instead, get nourished with minerals. Heal your major organ systems (liver, gallbladder, adrenal glands, thyroid). Learn to slow down. Learn to honor your need for rest. Learn to develop healthy boundaries and the self-esteem to maintain them. Learn to understand that migraine is but a symptom of a deeper problem.

These are the more emotional/spiritual/psychological/sociological aspects of healing migraine that no one wants to look at that provide the real leverage, so that you can heal on multiple levels and stop seeking instant migraine relief. Which paradigm are you operating from to solve your migraines – a preventive or suppressive approach?

I guess that there’s a bit of a mix in my audience here:

  • A few of you are using a purely suppressive approach – relying on medications alone to cope with migraine pain, knowing full well that it isn’t solving the underlying condition, but not knowing what the alternative is. You may not be doing much in the way of lifestyle change, and you’re ultimately too busy to prioritize healing.
  • A few of you are doing a lot to change your diet and have probably tried everything under the sun in terms of lifestyle change to heal your migraines holistically, but often face frustration because these methods don’t work – leaving you to rely on some suppressive medications even though you hate taking them.
  • Some of you are not on any pharmaceutical medications to manage your migraines. You eat extremely well, and you suffer through migraines rather than take meds. You endure a lot of pain.

It’s important to break this down because I have found that the more medications that people take for migraine pain, the slower their bodies are to respond to natural therapies. This makes sense because we know that most medications rob the body of vital nutrients. Your body can handle a small amount of medications and still find resiliency, but there is a threshold point where too many medications hinder your body’s ability to heal.

Therefore, people who are on multiple pharmaceutical medications are operating in a different paradigm than the one that I promote here. If you are committed to being on multiple medications, my approach may not be a good fit for you

Or, is there a middle way? A way to get out of pain WHILE stepping more fully onto the holistic paradigm of prevention?
